Medals 4 Mettle
Medals4Mettle is a non-profit organization that facilitates the giving of marathon, half marathon & triathlon finishers' medals. Runners give their medals to M4M & who in turn gives the medals, attached to a Medals4Mettle ribbon, to children & adults facing debilitating illnesses who might not be able to run a race, but are in a race of their own just to continue to live a reasonably normal life.
M4M was started by Dr Steven Isenberg who, after running the Chicago Marathon in 2003, visited a colleague (Dr Les Taylor) who was in the hospital suffering with prostate cancer. At a loss for words Dr Isenberg placed his finishers medal around Dr Taylor's neck & said "I want you to have this, you are running a much more difficult marathon than the one I completed". Dr Taylor later died but he told Dr Isenberg how much he treasured his medal.
Starting in October we will be collecting medals in our stores & then forwarding them to the local M4M chapters.
